NCS
We are very proud to announce that in February 2019, Mr J Stokes, NCS Co-coordinator was invited to accept the prestigious Gold Award for The Billericay School’s participation in the NCS programme. The award recognises us as Champion School for 2017/18 and follows on from our Bronze award in 2016/17.
Last year, The Billericay School saw 75 students take part in the programmed which runs during the summer holidays. It is a great way for young people to learn the skills they need to succeed in the future, whilst having fun. Students who participated last year described their experience as “life changing” and “the best experience” they have had to date.
Any Year 11 students who are interested in taking part this summer are encouraged to sign up online through the NCS website or through the NCS Contact Centre. Those that sign up and make payment by the deadline date will receive a free NCS T-Shirt!
What happens on NCS?
- ADVENTURE: Phase 1 - Feel the freedom of the outside world during five days away from home, taking on adrenaline-fuelled activities like rock climbing, canoeing and archery. Your team will cheer you along every step of the way, sharing in every challenge, every success. Then you’ll have a few days back at home for a much-needed rest!
- DISCOVERY: Phase 2 - Expect transformation, because this week is all about developing YOU. Living independently, you’ll learn essential life skills from local business leaders and charities, gain confidence in public speaking, communications skills and budgeting. It all looks great on your CV, whatever you do next.
- SOCIAL ACTION: Phase 3 - Now it’s time to make your mark. Back at home, you and your team will devise a social action project based on an issue you feel passionate about. You have the skills and confidence to do anything – the more original, the better! This is your chance to feel proud by making a real difference in your community.
- CELEBRATION: Phase 4 - Finally, take stock of all you’ve done. You’ll have overcome challenges, pushed yourself into new and exciting territories, and had experiences you never thought possible. Celebrate your achievements with your fellow NCS’ers at one great event before exploring all the opportunities NCS opens up to you. This is just the beginning!
